This ‘alba’ variety of the species Cattleya skinneri alba – ‘Mercedes’ is pure apart from the delicate suffusion of pale lemon yellow at the throat of the lip. It makes a good contrast to the other coloured form of the species.
A.R. Endres collecting for Veitch and Sons, Exeter. U.K. in Costa Rica sent the First white plants to the Europe some little time after G.U. Skinner had discovered pink coloured species.
Pure white varieties, such as the one shown here are extremely rare.
Its form, habitat, shape, size etc. and its needs when in collections are much the same as all other species of Cattleya.
